Tooth infection occurs in the center of the tooth, with living material known as pulp. It happens when the pulp becomes infiltrated with bacteria that enters the tooth through a cavity, crack, or break. This can often cause a great deal of pain; however, it can sometimes be completely painless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How is a Tooth Infection Treated?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When your tooth becomes infected, your dentist will need to perform a procedure known as a root canal. During this treatment, your tooth will be opened, and the infected pulp will be removed. It will then be cleaned out with antiseptic, and then filled with a synthetic pulp that will restore the tooth and prevent further infection from occurring. Then, the tooth will be sealed back up with a filling or crown and will be usable again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Root canals get a bad rap as being scary or painful, but the good news is that they are done under anesthesia and most patients report feeling much better after the procedure, not worse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
